The future is looking bright with these unmissable music festivals to add to the calendar

If you’ve been missing the buzz of a festival crowd – heck, maybe you’ve even missed the portaloo queues – it’s time to once again crack out the live-music head nod and whack on a wristband. The Gold Coast has plenty of music festivals on the cards for the rest of the year, here's a few of our top picks ...

SPRINGTIME – September 1–3
The imminent change of seasons also heralds the return of perfect party conditions and our beloved festival season – hurrah! That’s why the arrival of free festival SPRINGTIME in September is such perfect timing. The three-day festival will kick off on the Gold Coast Show public holiday on Friday September 1 with Bag Raiders on the decks, while Saturday will see New Zealand alt-pop artist BENEE take the stage and Sunday will welcome the soulful singing talents of none other than Matt Corby. Joining these magical music makers will be Sycco, Boo Seeka, Babe Rainbow, Chutney, Eliza & The Delusionals, Bella Amor and heaps more. SPRINGTIME will also welcome back the newly named Vans Skate Plaza showcasing the official Vans Skate Team on a pop-up beachfront skatepark, while live mural painting will return showcasing some seriously talented artists.

Promiseland Festival – Saturday September 30
Promiseland is set to combine a number of music genres, delivering live-music lovers a sweet line-up of fresh acts. Prepare to boogie over two days as a clutch of unmissable reggae, hip-hop and alternative artists hit the stage on Saturday September 30 and Sunday October 1. The killer line-up is headlined by Ms Lauryn Hill (the one and only), Davido and Tems. They’ll be joined by acts Fireboy DML, L.A.B, Ayra Starr, Koffee, ONEFOUR and many more. So, gather your fellow reggae-hip-hop-loving pals and prepare for an unmissable weekend to kick off your summer of festivals. Single-day and full weekend tickets are on sale now.

Grapevine Gathering – Sunday October 8
It might take a quick trip up the M1, but we had to include Grapevine Gathering, which is coming back to Queensland as part of its winery tour of Australia. Hosted by popular podcast duo Lucy and Nikki, Grapevine Gathering will be sliding into Sirromet Wines in the picturesque Mount Cotton on Sunday October 8. The 2023 line-up features indie-rock sensations Spacey Jane, UK festival favourites The Wombats, party starter Hayden James, electrifying band from Arnhem Land, King Stingray, ‘Absolutely Everybody’ singer Vanessa Amorosi, and many more. Nab a ticket here.

Groundwater Country Music Festival – October 20–22
The Groundwater Country Music Festival is taking over the breezy beachside suburb of Broadbeach from October 20–22 for three incredible days of country music this year! The country-filled springtime event will make the most of warm days and long nights, featuring acts like Lee Kernaghan, Jackson Dean, Casey Barnes, Amber Lawrence, Asleep at the Wheel and many more. Groundwater Country Music Festival is completely free to attend and there will be plenty happening across a variety of stages, so bust out your denim tuxedo and spruce up your cowboy boots, because you’re in for a boot-scootin’ good time. Take a peek at the whole program of events to ensure you don’t miss a minute of the action.

Spilt Milk – Sunday November 26
The summer 23/24 festival circuit looks to be a sizzling one, and the announcement of Spilt Milk’s line-up is proof. After a sold-out debut on the Gold Coast in 2022, the festival is back on Sunday November 26 at Gold Coast Sports Precinct in Carrara. This year’s line-up features (deep breath) Post Malone, Dom Dolla, Latto, Tkay Maidza, Peach PRC, Ocean Alley, Aitch, Dermot Kennedy, David Kushner and so many more. There are still a few tickets left, so we suggest grabbing yours ASAP!

Next year …

Juicy Fest – Saturday January 20
If you’re guilty of trying to replicate Ashanti’s sweet vocals when ‘Foolish’ plays on the radio, if you’ve got down and dirty in the clubs to the auto-tuned masterpiece that is ‘Buy U a Drank’, or you’ve jammed way too many times to ‘Hate It Or Love It’, then this is your sign to buy a ticket to 2000s-inspired hip-hop and R&B festival Juicy Fest. The 2024 edition of Juicy Fest, which is coming to Doug Jennings Park on Saturday January 20, will be headlined by a clutch of hip-hop and R&B legends including T-Pain, Ashanti, T.I. and The Game. The line-up also features 90s and 2000s superstars like Trey Songz, Fabolous, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Keri Hilson and Mario. Grab your ticket here.
