Let us point out that this is not just for appreciators of contemporary dance – ab[intra] has been touted as ferociously physical, evocative and will have you questioning human nature, movement and, well, your own existence. Whoa that’s deep, yes – but this is said to be an extremely powerful performance, so expect it to stay with you for some time after you leave the HOTA theatre.
ab[intra] is the latest work from Sydney Dance Company’s artistic director and choreographer Rafael Bonachela, who has crafted a physical and heartfelt performance described as ‘an exploration of our primal instincts, our impulses and our visceral responses’. Composer Nick Wales incorporates a cello concerto with ambient electronica to ignite the stage, which will be commanded by some of Australia’s best contemporary dancers. ab[intra] is hitting the HOTA stage for two nights only – Wednesday July 25 and Thursday July 26. Tickets are available via the HOTA website.
