Rather than just back-to-basics camping, tiny house Charlie (inspired by the inquisitive nature of the namesake character in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) is a unique experience. Tucked away on a 160-acre property just two hours north of Brisbane, Charlie is an off-grid, eco-friendly tiny house offering absolute seclusion from the hustle and bustle of the city in every way – including no phone reception. There’s no need to scrimp on the creature comforts, however, as the cabin has a plush queen bed (plus a single loft bed), full bathroom with a hot shower, air-conditioning and heating, and a fully-equipped kitchen with basic provisions, plus books and board games (if you can tear your eyes away from the stars).

On arriving at the property, your eyes will immediately be drawn to the views over the valley, which extends out over the Blackall Ranges. After exploring the surrounding land (which you’re free to roam) or just kicking back with a book in the hammock, we suggest sitting by the campfire and watching the sunset with a glass of wine in hand. After rising slowly to the sunrise through your bedside window, a campfire-cooked breakfast will be the perfect way to start a day of exploration. If you’re the kind of person that can’t help but jam-pack a day with activities, then we think you’ll still find plenty to do in the surrounding areas. There are monthly markets, antique shops and wineries to explore near Crows Nest (which is a 20 minute drive from the tiny house), plus hiking trails and fishing if you’re that way inclined. You can also head to Crows Nest Falls Lookout, where you’ll discover crystal-clear swimming holes and breathtaking views at the top. Tiny house Charlie is just over two hours drive from Brisbane and 45 minutes from Toowoomba, which means it’s close enough that you could even duck away from the city for a midweek escape.
