The Weekend Series: enjoy a staycay with your doggo at these pet friendly accomodation hotspots

If you have a dog, it's pretty safe to assume that you are familiar with the look – you know the one. The look they give you whenever you attempt to leave the house to do adult things, like go to work, again. The look that penetrates your soul and makes you question how much you even enjoy leaving the house in the first place. It hits you right in the feels and when you are a dog parent, you can forget weekends away because it's too damn hard to leave their cute faces and waggy little tails in a kennel or with friends (because you'll be jealous of all the fun they'll have). If you've been yearning for a getaway or staycay but can't bear to leave your pupper pal behind, here are some excellent pet friendly accomodation hotspots on Brisbane, the Gold Coast and beyond.

W Brisbane, Brisbane City
If your pampered pooch has a taste for the finer things in life (no judgement here), check in to W Brisbane and revel in five-star luxury with your fur baby. The offer isn’t exclusive to handbag dogs, W Brisbane welcomes (encourages) dogs of all shapes and sizes and has gone so far as to implement a P.A.W (Pets Are Welcome) program that includes clean-up bags, a custom pet bed, pet toys and treats, bowls and leashes. There’s even a dog walking service available so you can enjoy a massage or a cheeky beverage on the Wet Deck guilt-free!

Ovolo Inchcolm, Spring Hill
Perfectly placed on Wickham Terrace, Ovolo is a boutique hotel with rock and roll swagger. The building dates back to the 1930s and exudes Gertrude Stein’s Paris salon kind of vibe so it’s only fitting that well-behaved hounds are welcome here. The V.I.Pooch package includes a bed, eating/drinking mat, food bowl and their very own doggy bag of snacks and toys. Understandably, dogs must be on a lead in public areas within the hotel and they are unfortunately not allowed in the bar and restaurant, gym or pool. An additional charge of $80 per pooch per night applies and there’s a maximum of two dogs allowed per room.

Spicers Balfour Hotel, Newfarm
For an easy and memorable staycay, look no further than Spicers Balfour Hotel. Ideally positioned in the ultra-trendy suburb of New Farm, you can cafe hop your way around plenty of dog-friendly eateries before burning some energy at Powerhouse Park dog off-leash area. The Pooch Packages start at $459 per night and includes luxury accomodation and breakfast daily as well as some special inclusions for your four-legged friend including a plush dog bed with mattress and blanket, a lead with doggie bags attached, a dog bowl and a long-lasting bone – they’ll be the happiest doggos in all the land. The package is only available in Suites 10 and 11 so availability may be limited.

Alcyone Hotel Residences, Hamilton
If you’re looking for a low-key luxe getaway, the all-new Alcyone Hotel Residence at the Portside precinct at Hamilton is dog-friendly! Yes, you read right, fur babies are more than welcome at Alcyone with a special Pamper your Pooch package, which includes a doggie goodie bag filled with treats as well as use of a plush dog bed, blanket and bowls to keep your mate in the life they have become accustomed. The add-on is $35 per night plus cleaning fee, a small price to pay for your furry friend’s eternal happiness.

Sage Hotel James Street, Brisbane
Forget those sad puppy dog eyes as you close the front door, Sage James Street is now welcoming four-legged friends to stay! Enjoy the best of Brisbane’s trendy James Street with your best friend in tow before retiring to one of Sage James Street’s dog friendly rooms, which are located on the ground floor and come with spacious courtyards so they can bask in the warmth of the sun. Water and food bowls are provided as well as litter bags, and the best part? The hotel team will provide you with a guide on the best dog friendly venues in the James Street precinct.

Mavis’s Kitchen, Uki
If you’re up for a little roadtrip, Mavis’s Kitchen is nestled at the base of the majestic Wollumbin-Mt Warning and offers the perfect backdrop to rest and recharge the batteries. The 25-acre former dairy farm is home to a relaxed country-style restaurant, a rich organic kitchen garden and eco-friendly B&B cabin accomodation, which as you may have already deducted, is dog friendly! As a guest, you (and your dog) are welcome to explore the grounds at leisure, help yourself to some of the organic fruit and roll out a rug for a picnic on the lawn although please note, furry friends must be on a lead at all times to protect the native wildlife that also live there.

Shambhala, Byron Bay
A pristine rainforest oasis on dog-friendly Belongil Beach, Shambhala means hidden paradise, which is precisely what this is. Tucked away along a private road, it’s hard to find but even harder to leave. Shambhala is pet friendly by arrangement and all attending pets must be previously authorised.
