Breakfast, beers and beach clubs – how to spend 24 hours on the Gold Coast without getting in the car

With the Christmas holidays quickly approaching and Queensland's borders set to open before we know it, we predict that there will be plenty of people searching for things to do on the coast. Whether you're flying in and can't bring yourself to allocate part of your cocktail budget to a hire car, or you're a local and would prefer to enjoy said cocktails without getting an Uber home – never fear. We've dreamed up a cracking itinerary for 24 hours on the Gold Coast – from sandy dips to sunset sips – that you can enjoy car-free with thanks to G:link.

Breakfast
As a famous writer somewhere has probably said before, “no activity-packed day should commence without first enjoying top-notch bites and quality bean juice”. Well, friends, that may not be a real quote but, either way, we tend to agree. For a hearty breakfast, you need to start your day at Broadbeach haunt Elk Espresso. Serving up delectable brunch treats alongside cracking coffee from Single O seven days a week, there’s a reason that locals and visitors alike flock to this beachside gem. The menu changes seasonally, meaning that there is always something new to discover – think green bowls packed with goodness, sweet treats like strawberry pavlova waffles and exciting flavour combinations.

Mid-morning
A change of season is the perfect excuse to refresh the wardrobe, particularly if you have accidentally-on-purpose forgotten to pack swimmers or an outfit to wear to dinner. With just a quick stroll you’ll find yourself at Pacific Fair where you can nab some fresh threads from some stylish favourites like Aje, Lululemon, Mecca Cosmetica and Bec + Bridge – to name just a few.

Lunch
All that walking between the shops will leave you famished – there’s a reason they say shop ’til you drop. Never fear – hop on the G:link at Broadbeach South and let it take you northbound to the heart of the action – Cavill Avenue! You’ll need a ticket to ride but it’s never been easier now that you can use your smart phone or credit card to tap on and off. Stop and take some time out for lunch in Surfers Paradise at crowd favourite BOBS Beer (an acronym for Best Of Beers, of course). The fun and fresh venue is home to ice-cold brews, a seasonal menu of top-notch nosh and a seriously impressive fit-out. Not a fan of a frothy? Peruse the other options, as accompanying the bevy of brews is a creative cocktail menu packed with signature sips that will quench your thirst after a morning of wandering.

Mid-afternoon
It’s summer and the sun’s shining, what else can you do but head to the beach? Whether you’re keen to take a few steps onto the sand and roll out your towel or you’re after something a little bit more secluded, you’re in luck.or you’re after something a little bit more secluded, you’re in luck. To escape the crowds, jump back on the G: for a couple of stops to Surfers Paradise North where you can nab a quieter spot on the sand.

Late afternoon
Following your arvo nap on the sand, rinse off with a dip and head to one of the nearby bars for a pre-dinner drink. There are plenty of options located just a few steps away from the Cavill Avenue G:link stop, like Hyde Paradiso that boasts views over the beach, The Island Rooftop for sky-high tropicana vibes or Cali Beach, the recently opened Palm-Springs-inspired day-to-night entertainment precinct.

Dinner
Once you’ve wet your whistle with a tipple or two, take a short stroll and hop back on the G: heading north. In just a short trip you’ll arrive at the Southport station for the final instalment of your whirlwind day. Saunter into Mr PP’s Deli & Rooftop, Southport’s first rooftop bar and pizzeria (which is conveniently right across the road from the station!), and select some drool-inducing bites from an array of antipasto, a hefty pizza menu and a clutch of pastas. Pair your nosh with a cocktail from the well-stocked bar, which also serves up a selection of tap beers alongside a concise cellar list.

This article was created with our friends at G:link. With stops down the coast from Helensvale to Broadbeach South, you can use the G: to plan the ultimate 24 hours on the Gold Coast without having to worry about driving, parking or finding a rideshare.
