Ever since the big C-word put an abrupt end to our travel plans, we’ve dedicated a large proportion of each and every day to mentally planning our next getaway. As it turns out, the ideal vacation may be closer than you think. Nestled on Pacific Parade in Currumbin on the Gold Coast, otherwise known as paradise on earth, Houston is the boutique coastal escape you’ve been dreaming of. Featuring gorgeously renovated apartments, the place is straight out of Pinterest with a dreamy palette of calming hues set against vibrant original art pieces created by the brilliantly talented Milah Laidley, who also happens to be in her final year of Master of Architecture degree and helped curate the gorgeous space alongside her dad, Tony Cannon.
According to local legend, the original building was designed in 1950s by the iconic architect Harry Seidler, who is widely regarded as one of the leading exponents of Modernism’s methodology in Australia. The building’s original owner wanted curved art-deco style metal on the balustrades – Harry did not – and he subsequently disowned the project. While it may not be the precise clean, modern vision Harry had planned, Tony and Milah have restored the old girl from the base up, leaving absolutely no stone unturned. The end result is a work of art. There are currently two different options available – a one bed plus study apartment and a one bed plus study with a lawn terrace. Bookings for Houston Currumbin are open now.
