Byron on a budget – The Surf House opens with boutique (and cheap) rooms just metres from the beach

With the border reopening from July 10, we're no longer going to be deprived of our day trips and weekenders in beautiful Byron Bay – so it's time to start planning your next escape. If you're a little strapped for cash but don't want to kick it at the backpackers or camp ground, then the newly opened The Surf House could be right up your alley. Oh, and speaking of champagne tastes on a beer budget – it's also got a rooftop bar.

Located in the heritage-listed Byron Council Chambers building just two streets back from Main Beach, The Surf House offers a range of affordable, design-led accommodation options, balancing the service and facilities of a hotel, with the laid-back vibe of a hostel. It’s the third property from Millet Group, which is also behind boutique hotel Lord Byron and nearby hostel Wake Up! Byron Bay. The group has given the site a major aesthetic overhaul, keeping in with the building’s heritage charm and combining the original architecture with elements of modern design.

There are a range of different rooms to suit all budgets – from private queen rooms with ensuites, balconies and ocean views, through to shared-room options that are designed for groups or solo travellers that are ‘looking to connect with others’. However you roll, you’ll be pleased to know you’ve got access to our own rooftop bar where you can unwind with a Stone & Wood brew or a Brookie’s G&T. The sun-kissed sipping spot is inspired by old-school Northern New South Wales’ surf culture, decked out with nostalgic bric-a-brac, beach-style furnishings and vintage decor. Plus, when restrictions ease, The Surf House will introduce a series of complimentary social activities for guests including yoga, personal-training classes and guided lighthouse tours. You see, soul-cleansing Byron sojourns don’t have to cost the world!

Take a peek at The Surf House website for more.
