City of Gold Coast reveals concepts for new art gallery

We’re getting pretty pumped for what’s to come with the Gold Coast Arts Precinct – and if the concept designs for the city’s new $53 million art gallery are anything to go by, the new arts hub is going to be pretty spectacular.

Developed by a design team led by ARM Architecture, in consultation with The Arts Centre Gold Coast, the impressive 6,000 sqm international-standard gallery will be a major feature within the 17 hectare Gold Coast Arts Precinct. The concepts for the sub-tropical rainforest-inspired gallery have been presented to Council’s Economic Development and Major Projects Committee, which then recommended Council progress design works, with a proposed delivery pegged for 2020. The gallery is set to play a huge part in supporting and developing home-grown artistic talent whilst acting as a major drawcard in attracting local and interstate visitors to experience the precinct and art in its many forms.

The Gold Coast City Art Gallery, which will also incorporate a cafe space and retail zone, will be located west of the precinct’s stage one amphitheatre. Currently under construction, the 5000-seat purpose-built theatre includes impressive landscaping over the stage and wings, with grassed observation areas, picnic spots, play equipment and areas for artistic activation. The amphitheatre is due for completion by 2018 in time for the Commonwealth Games.
