Gather around and listen to records on a sleek audio unit from Fort Kingsley

There's something inherently special about sinking into a chair and listening to a record with a wine in hand. The unmistakable crackle of the vinyl, the mild inconvenience of having to get up to physically change sides, the feeling that time is somewhat superfluous – it becomes an experience rather than just background music. If you also possess an appreciation for the experience or have a keen eye for design, take a peek at Fort Kingsley's beautiful new take on the classic audio consoles of yesteryear.

Gold Coaster Liam McCallion has always loved the old consoles from the 60s that had the record player built-in. He loved the way they commanded pride of place in living rooms and brought families and friends together to listen to music. But, like all things technology-related, eventually the consoles were replaced by smaller and smaller units until one day, manufacturers stopped making them all together. Saddened but also inspired, Liam set out to create a piece for his own home that combined his three passions – music, timber and design. He wanted to bring back some of the nostalgia from the old-style consoles but integrate it with modern technology, the result is a thing of beauty as well as functionality. Music lovers, say hello to Paxton by Fort Kingsley.

Featuring a sleek floating design with a sculpted wooden base, Paxton houses a range of cutting-edge audio tech from around the world including a turntable from renowned British manufacturer Rega, an amp module from Denmark’s ICEpower as well as the ability to wirelessly connect to your preferred streaming service and the capability to synchronise to up to 10 rooms. In short, it’s the best of both worlds. Each piece is lovingly handmade and wired in Burleigh Heads and is available in a range of environmentally friendly FSC-certified timbers. The units are handmade to order so take four to eight weeks to create however your patience is rewarded with a one-of-a-kind console that offers a refinement and character that cannot be replicated by store-bought furniture.
