A win for the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre

The Gold Coast Aquatic Centre has been awarded Building of the Year at the 2015 Gold Coast/Northern Rivers Regional Architecture Awards by the Australian Institute of Architects.


The Southport Pool was transformed into a state-of-the-art facility designed by designed by Cox Rayner Architects. The $42 million transformation includes six pools, one of which is a 50-metre 10-lane competition pool, a dry land dive training facility, a gymnasium, cafe and meeting rooms. The aquatic facility will host the swimming events for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Gold Coast Aquatic Centre was one of seven projects to receive regional commendations ranging from residential to health, education and public projects. All the projects that have been honoured will now progress to the Queensland Architecture Awards, to be announced on 26 June 2015.
